Swim Club
Westbourne Swim Club will be a community-based club that provides coaching and training programs for swimmers of all abilities. Our focus is to create a positive environment in which to develop the skills, strength and fitness of our swimmers and provide opportunities to participate in competitive swimming, in the pool and open water.
Swim Club Pathway
Westbourne Swim Club is open for current Westbourne students and the outside community. The swim club is inclusive for all wanting to join a competitive club.

Our squad levels are skill based.
Advanced Squads

Nippers is the entry level into Westbourne Swim Club. Nippers provides a transition from learn to swim to a competitive squad environment. The squad caters for athletes who are beginning their competitive swimming journey in a fun, friendly, and educational environment.

 Minimum one squad session per week

Development Squad

Provides opportunities for athletes to strengthen the foundations of competitive technique and skills.  Development squad caters to athletes who have a proven record of participation in competitive swimming.

Development Squad sessions continue to focus on the education of competitive technique and race skills in an environment that encourages consistency, learning and enjoyment of racing. Progression from Development Squad to District Squad requires commitment to training and competition and technique improvement consistent with the increased training load and District Squad.


Minimum two squad session per week

District Squad

The emphasis of District Squad is to prepare athletes for success at a state level and beyond by focusing on consolidating technical ability across all strokes and skills in addition to the development of physiological characteristics required to be successful as age level swimmers.

At this level, swimmers increase the intensity and duration of training, whilst strengthening the foundations of competitive technique and skill. They are exposed to numerous competitions throughout the year with the aim of achieving state sprint and state age qualifying times-enabling swimmers to further develop their strokes and skills.

Four sessions per week recommended

State Youth Squad

State Youth squad is designed for older swimmers who have or are trying to achieve state qualifying times. State Youth offers more flexibility in training requirements, providing adequate training for those who still have a strong desire to compete but require a lower commitment demand. The training sessions are designed to improve swimmer’s technique, efficiency, speed, and endurance in a challenging and supportive environment.

State Squad

State squad is primarily focused on developing and preparing young swimmers to qualify and race at a national level. The squad caters mainly for swimmers aged eleven to fourteen years and swimmers attend five to six sessions per week. The development of all aspects of stroke technique, fitness and race skills, and competition readiness is encouraged.

Swimmers are expected to make a full commitment to the training and competition schedule as set by the Head Coach.

Five Sessions + one gym recommended

National Squad

National Squad is a performance-based squad where the swimmers are fully committed to training and competing at a high national standard. National squad swimmers must maintain a program to improve their swimming and aim for Nationals Titles.

Swimmers in National Squad are expected to make a full commitment to the training and competition schedule as set by the Head Coach.

Nine sessions + two gym sessions recommended.

National finalist and 16 years old or above only

Westbourne Swim Club will be committed to encouraging and supporting a life-long enjoyment of swimming, fostering a supportive environment for swimmers of all abilities to participate in competition, and to providing pathways for talented swimmers to achieve their full competitive potential.

The Westbourne Swim Club program focuses on a learning environment where fun and inclusivity support the foundations of water safety education. Our program offers several different levels to cater to each student, ensuring all students are nurtured and developed within the program.

Our levels are organised into age groups and swimming abilities, with specific ratios for each level.
